Cisco Systems hat auf einer Analystenkonferenz mit den „Application Network Services“ (ANS) eine neue Technologie zur Beschleunigung von Netzwerk-Anwendungen vorgestellt. Dadurch sollen Mitarbeiter schneller auf große Anwendungspakete zugreifen können.
Der Netzwerkausrüster stuft ANS als „Advanced Technology“ ein, rechnet also mit Umsätzen von mehr als einer Milliarde Dollar in den nächsten fünf bis sieben Jahren. In diese Gruppe gehören auch VoIP, Optical Networking, Storage Area Networking, Heimvernetzung, WLAN, Sicherheit und Hosted Small Business.
Cisco hat sich bereits in der Vergangenheit mit der Beschleunigung von Netzwerk-Anwendungen befasst. So macht die Anfang des Jahres vorgestellte Technologie „Application oriented Networking“ die einzelnen Netzwerkkomponenten intelligenter und kann das Routing auf Basis festgelegter Richtlinien gestalten.
ANS entwickelt diese Idee weiter, in dem sie Unternehmen dabei unterstützt, ihre Applikationen zu verknüpfen. Die Bereitstellung von Diensten soll so deutlich schneller gehen.

3Com Corporation today announced that in an independent performance test conducted by The Tolly Group, one of the most influential testing validation firms in North America, the 3Com(R) Switch 5500G-EI proved to be a superior alternative to the Cisco Catalyst 3750G-48TS switch for enterprise-class switching capabilities.
According to the test results, the switch also proved to be interoperable in a Cisco network.
